I have feelings about Pixar that border on the barely meh. I must be one of the few people in the world who doesn't immediately orgasm at the mere mention of the company.
In fact:
Toy Story - tolerable on first viewing. Excruciating on second.
Toy Story 2 - please excuse me while I hit my head against the wall.
A Bug's Life - didn't even bother to see this.
Monsters, Inc - see Toy Story
Cars - actually enjoyed this one. Not been game to see it a second time.
The Incredibles - OMG. Pulling my fingernails out with a pair of pliers would be preferable to having to sit through this again.
Finding Nemo - Just. Kill. Me.
Why do I keep watching films that they make? I don't know. Hoping that they will improve? Anyway, I'd forgotten that the reason I'd avoided this film was because it was made by them. In fact, when the Pixar logo appeared on the screen I seriously considered turning it off. The sinking feeling in my stomach was absolute. Fuck. A fucking Pixar film.
"OK," I thought. "I'll give it 15 minutes and if it doesn't grab me by then, I'll turn it off.
Five minutes later: "OK, I'll give it 10 minutes and see how I go."
8 minutes,43 seconds: "Can I even last to 10 minutes?"
I tried. I really tried. In fact, the DVD is still on in the background as I type this. But have I been tempted to turn around? Not once.
I don't have a pure hatred of the company. I grudgingly admit that each of their films (that I have seen) has had moments that have made me laugh out loud. But they are so infrequent and the storylines are so fucking dull, I just can't bare them.
I know that the animation is great for feature films, etc etc but really in this day and age, big fucking deal.
And, I found this out only recently so it has in no way coloured my previous opinion of the studio - they were previously part of LucasFilm. They of the mediocre ILM. ILM shits me to tears. But like I said - I didn't know that so that had no impact on my previous opinions and since I found out, all I can think is, "Why am I not surprised?"
So my opinion of this film is don't bother if you feel like I do about Pixar films. It's not worth the pain.

I love animated movies ... and own several of them.
... don't think less of me!
I like animated movies. I own a couple myself. And I do understand the attraction of Pixar films. I just don't like them and think they are overrated.
Won't hold it against you. Yet.
you know what would make a good cartoon, seeing how many five-year-olds you could beat up in a fight.
