DVD: 1408

I have a confession to make. When it comes to horror movies I'm more of a slasher-flick kinda girl. Not a huge fan of hauntings and movies like Ring and The Grudge give me the willies - I'm not good with the whole vengeful ghost thing. I was actually given free tickets to see the Sarah Michelle Gellar version of The Grudge and let's just say I had a bad night sleep after that. And at one point in the film someone in the cinema (I'm not saying it was me, I'm merely making the observation about the person sitting in my seat) may have been the only person to scream at one point.

I'm just saying.

Anyway, I was rather hopeful about this. Movies based on Stephen King short stories are generally pretty decent affairs.

This was utter shit.

Utter, utter, utter shit.

Wasn't even fucking scary. And it's supposed to be an Evil Room. It must be, 'cause as Samuel L Jackson said to John Cusack when he handed over the key:

It's an evil fucking room.

And you know that Sam Jackson never lies. 'Cause Jules be a bad mother fucker.

But no. It may be an Evil Room, but it is still not very fucking scary.

It had the laundry list of "scary" things
  • bleeding walls
  • windows closing at inconvenient times or disappearing altogether
  • ghosts re-enacting their last moments
  • radios turning on of their own accord
to name but a few

Towards the end there was a scene in which I suppose you were meant to be shocked or something. It was just predictable. How stupid do they think the movie-going public is?

Anyway, the ending was not your typical Hollywood ending, which I appreciated. However, according to Wiki, the ending I saw was the original ending. When preview audiences saw it they didn't like it. Having found out what the alternate ending was, all I can say is that preview audiences are a bunch of tools. What a crock.

Less than impressed.

Geez, we watched the same films this weekend. This film had potential but fell flat on it's arse.

man I wish i had a room like that in MY house.
Ever been to Monte Christo in Junee? it's meant to be f*ck-off haunted, heaps of claims of hauntings there.http://www.montecristo.com.au/
There's also an old hospital somewhere in the Grampians that is meant to be haunted too.
I heard a story about a school group who camped there overnight, apparently the walls there bled and there was a fireplace that emitted some kind of field that shorted out electrical appliances like torches and things like that.
Faces appearing mysteriously at the windows and stuff like that.
Pretty freaky stuff.

Shish - no. No I haven't. Never mind.

Chuck - disturbing, yes?

Krypto - OK, I would never stay in any place like that. What is not scary when watching in a lame-arsed Hollywood flick would freak me the fuck out in real life!
